Why Is Literacy Important in Early Years?
Literacy isn’t just about learning to read — it’s about understanding, expressing, and connecting with the world. A strong foundation in early literacy sets children up for success in school and helps build confidence in communication.

The Science Behind It

The brain begins processing language from infancy. Early exposure to books, rhymes, and storytelling helps build vocabulary, phonemic awareness, and comprehension. Studies show that children who are read to regularly have better attention spans, stronger language skills, and a more developed imagination.

How Can We Support

Literacy & Reading?

Support starts with everyday moments — reading aloud, singing songs, pointing out letters and words in the environment. Play-based literacy activities make learning feel fun and natural, not forced. It’s also important to let kids move at their own pace, with plenty of repetition and encouragement.
