How Can We Support
Critical Thinking?
We support critical thinking not by giving answers — but by asking open-ended questions, encouraging exploration, and allowing mistakes. Activities that involve sorting, comparing, sequencing, or problem-solving are powerful ways to develop these skills naturally.

Why is Critical Thinking Important in Early Childhood?
Critical thinking is the foundation for problem-solving, decision-making, and understanding the world. It helps children learn how to analyse, compare, question, and make connections — skills they’ll use in school, relationships, and everyday life.
The Science Behind It
Research shows that even toddlers are capable of basic reasoning. According to developmental psychologists, the brain's "executive function" — responsible for working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control — begins developing rapidly between ages 3 and 5. The more children are encouraged to ask “why?” and “what if?”, the stronger these neural connections become.
